Local Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Being visible on the first page of search results can make all the difference between your business prospering for years to come with a constant flow of new customers, clients and patients…or slowly fading toward bankruptcy.  How can you achieve this cherished first page visibility when you have so many competitors all coveting the same place?  The answer is simple: become more relevant to the search user.

 Let (949) Local Help

So how do you become “relevant” to the search user (and search engines)?   That answer is not so simple! Search engine optimization requires crafting your business profile on each search engine just right.  Set up your Google+ and Bing Places pages to include the right categories to be listed within.  Then you need to acquire dozens of “citations” from across the world wide web.  You may also need to edit the title tags on your website to give them a “local flavor”.   Then link your website to your Google+ page.  And reviews from your customers help a lot as well.  And this is just the beginning.

(949) Local has invested the time (and a lot of grief) to “learn the ropes” of local search optimization.  Over years we have compiled a huge library of local and web wide citations.  We are well known in the local search marketing community and most online forums.  With the constant change that is local search marketing, we lean upon our legitimate colleagues (several of whom are key advisers to Google) across the country and they lean upon us as well.  Together we formulate the “best practices” and strategies to help our clients get and keep a high ranking in local search results.

For The “Do It Yourself-er”

Honestly, this isn’t rocket science.  You can do this yourself.  You could pull your own tooth also, but you would probably be wiser to have a dentist do it.  It may cost you a few bucks but the savings in pain and possible infection is most likely worth the investment.

If you are a committed “do it yourselfer”, we are happy to help you get started, point you in the right direction, smooth out the bumps and avoid the many pitfalls along the way.  To get started, we urge you to check out the list of top ranking factors (and what not to do) at the 2013 Local Search Ranking Factors by David Mihm of Moz.  Essentially this is the road map that we follow and urge anyone interested in doing this themselves to follow as well.

Do be careful though!  Even the most seemingly innocent error can be interpreted by the search engines as an attempt by you to trick them into giving you a high ranking.  They don’t like tricks and their “getting even” can be disastrous including suspension of your  account and rank in search altogether.   Then you don’t have to worry about not being on Page 1, because then you will be on Page Zero!

It’s really all about time.  Time needed to learn the basics, find and acquire the best citations for you, figuring out which flavor of Google+ is best for you.  Then you need to have the time to stay tuned into the constant stream of changes to local search and search engines.  Did you know that Google makes, on the average, over 30 changes in its search algorithm every month?  And when they make a big update i.e. the recent “Hummingbird” update, (Surprise!) they don’t tell you or anyone else about it.  One day you check your ranking and find that something has changed, and not in your favor.  Now write off the rest of your day, jump onto online forums and figure out what just happened, why, and what you need to do to restore your hard earned Page 1 ranking.  Do you really have the time for all of this or would it be better used running your business and enjoying the company of family and friends?
